Why Annadana in Pitru Paksha??

MAHALAYA THARPANAM
The story behind it

All of you are aware that Mahalaya paksham started from 28th sep this year.

Am just sharing the reason and story behind it

Karna the great warrior after getting killed in Mahabharata war was received with honors at Heaven by Yama. He said you can enjoy the Heaven as you have done great penance in the birth.
Karna was happy and was enjoying the stint. After sometime he felt hungry and asked inmates where food is served. Heavenly abodes were taken by shock and informed that in Heaven you don't feel hungry and no food is needed for them. The deva guru Brihaspathi watching this went into deep meditation and asked Karna to lick his index finger. Karna did the same and hunger was gone. Karna was totally surprised and asked the reason.
Guru explained "Karna in your birth you were a "giver" and have done all charity to needed. But you were not inclined to Anna dhaana which is foremost and that is the reason you felt hungry in Heaven.
Karna asked "then how the same had gone when I licked my index finger?"
Guru explained "once a poor Brahmin came and asked food at your house. Since you generally don't do Anna Dhaana you refused but pointed out through your index finger a place where Anna Dhaanam was done. The Brahmin went there and had his food and got his hunger quenched. That 'Punya" was lying in your finger and hence you could feel the hunger had gone from you"!
Karna was in tears. He ran to Yama and pleaded for mortal form for one Paksha (fortnight). Yama asked him the reason and Karna said he wanted to do only Anna Dhaana in this Paksha. Yama was moved and granted him the same.
Karna came to Earth and did Anna Dhaana in a place where nobody could identify him. He was so happy that this time was spent for a great cause.
After a fortnight Yama came back and asked Karna to renounce the mortal body. Karna happily agreed.
Yama felt moved by his gesture and said "anybody would have asked more time to stay in Earth and enjoy pleasures here. But you kept up your words and did exactly for what your mortal body was granted. Please ask a boon which will be granted"
Karna said "Lord many people in Earth would have forgotten to feed their ancestors or anyone. Therefore if in this Paksha anyone offering food should reach the ancestors or souls who were deprived of offspring to do Karma for them"
Yama happily granted the same and took Karna to Heaven.
Yama said "anybody offering food in this Paksha is blessed and will also reach those who were not fortunate to be fed in Earth and Heaven"

Therefore please offer food in this Paksha the blessings of which will hold good for 21 generations

Stay blessed
(Applicable for those who are having rights to do Pitru Karma)

What is Kaliyug??

What is Kaliyug and what will happen during Kaliyug?

Asked The four Pandavas (except Yudhishthira who was not present)

Krishna smiled and said "let me demonstrate you the situation of Kaliyug". He took a bow and four arrows and shot them in four directions, and ordered the four Pandavas to bring them back

Each of the four Pandavas went in four different directions to search for the arrows

Arjuna when picked the arrow heard a very sweet voice; he turned back and saw a cuckoo was singing bhajans in very spellbinding voice but was also eating flesh of a live rabbit which was in great pain. Arjuna was very surprised to see such a gory act by such a divine bird. He left the place immediately

Bhima picked the arrow from a place where five wells were situated, the four wells were surrounding a single well. The four wells were overflowing with very sweet water as if they were not able to hold the water. But surprisingly the well in the middle of these four overflowing wells was completely empty. Bhima was also puzzled at this sight

Nakula was returning to the place after picking up the arrow. He stopped at a place where a cow was about to give birth

After giving birth the cow started licking the calf but continued to lick it even after the calf was clean. With great difficulty people were able to separate them and by that time the calf was injured badly. Nakula was puzzled by the behaviour of such a calm animal

Sahadev picked the arrow which fell near a mountain and saw a big boulder falling, the boulder was crushing the rocks and big trees on his way down, but the same boulder was stopped by a small plant. Sahadev was also amazed at this sight

All the Pandavas asked the meaning of these incidents from Krishna, who smiled and started explaining

"In Kaliyug the priests will have very sweet voice and also have great knowledge, but they will exploit devotees the same way the cuckoo was doing to the rabbit. In Kaliyug poor will live among the rich. Those rich will have enormous amount of wealth which will actually overflow but they will not offer a single penny to the poor, in the same way as the four wells didn't give a single drop of water to the empty well

In Kaliyug parent will love their children so much that their love will actually spoil them and destroy their lives similar to the love shown by the cow to her newborn calf

In Kaliyug people will fall in terms of character like the boulder from the mountain and they will not be stopped by anyone. At the end only the name of God will be able to hold them from doom like how the little plant held the boulder from falling down further

That's the explanation of Kaliyug from God Krishna to the four Pandavas

WHAT IS KARMA???

What is Karma?
A king was touring his kingdom on his elephant. Suddenly he stopped in front of a shop in the market and said to his minister, "I don't know why, but I want to hang the owner of this shop." The minister was shocked. But before he could ask the king why, the king had moved on.

The next day, the minister went to that shop dressed as one of the locals to see the shopkeeper. He casually asked him how his business was faring. The shopkeeper, a sandalwood merchant, reported sadly that he had hardly any customer. People would come to his shop, smell the sandalwood and then go away. They would even praise the quality of the sandalwood but rarely buy anything. His only hope was that the king would die soon. Then there would be a huge demand for sandalwood for performing his last rites. As he was the only sandalwood merchant around, he was sure the king's death would mean a windfall.

The minister now understood why the king had stopped in front of this shop and expressed a desire to kill the shopkeeper. Perhaps, the shopkeeper's negative thought vibration had subtly affected the king, who had, in turn, felt the same kind of negative thought arising within.

The minister; a noble man, pondered over the matter for a while. Without revealing who he was or what had happened the day before, he expressed a desire to buy some sandalwood. The shopkeeper was pleased. He wrapped the sandalwood and handed it over to the minister.

When the minister returned to the palace, he went straight to the court where the king was seated and reported that the sandalwood merchant had a gift for him. The king was surprised. When he opened the package, he was pleasantly surprised by the fine golden color of the sandalwood and its agreeable fragrance. Pleased, he sent some gold coins to the sandalwood merchant. The king also felt sorry in his heart that he had harbored unbecoming thoughts of killing the shopkeeper.

When the shopkeeper received the gold coins from the king, he was astounded. He began to proclaim the virtues of the king who had, through the gold coins, saved him from the brink of poverty. After some time, he recalled the morbid thoughts he had felt towards the king, and repented for having entertained such negative thoughts for his own personal goal.

If we have a good and kind thought for another person, that positive thought will come back to us in a favorable way. But if we harbor evil thoughts, those thoughts will come back to us as retribution.

"What is Karma?" asked Swami
Many replied, "our words, our deeds, our feelings, our actions......"

Swami shook his head and said
"Your thoughts are your Karma!"

Be Blessed Of Divine Light.
