Duty is Duty...Ravana as Brahmin

A Lesser Known Story From The Ramayana
After a long journey, Sri Ramchandra and the army of monkeys, reached the southern coast of our vast land and beheld the expanse of water separating them from Sri Lanka. The search for Sita was over; Rama now knew where she was; it only remained to redeem her from Ravana, by peaceful persuasion if possible or by war, if necessary. In line with our tradition of seeking Divine help, before commencing any work, Sri Ram desired to consecrate and offer worship to Shiva.

Arrangements were soon completed, except finding a suitable priest to guide the function. Sri Ram thought for a while and then decided on the best person available nearby - Ravana the king of Sri Lanka. Without hesitation he bade Hanuman to fly to Ravana’s palace and request him to conduct the pooja.
There was considerable shock and dismay among the assembly; to invite an enemy to conduct a pooja, specially meant to conquer and destroy him! Will Ravana accept such a preposterous invitation?
But Hanuman as a loyal soldier implicitly obeyed the royal command and flew to Sri Lanka to convey the message to Ravana. Men and women around him were also deeply shocked, surprised and mystified at this strange invitation from the prince of Ayodhya.
Ravana, true to his stature as a great pundit in Vedic literature, true to the tradition that as a Brahman, he should never decline an invitation to organize Divine worship, and true to his intense devotion to Lord Shiva accepted the invitation.
He came with Hanuman to Sri Ram’s place, much to the consternation of everyone. Soon the king of Sri Lanka made an inspection of all arrangements, and turning to Sri Rama, said,
"O prince of Ayodhya, though you have made very satisfactory arrangements, you are not qualified to install the idol of Lord Shiva in the absence of your wife. Our edicts declare that no person, however high, can perform such ceremonies without his consort nearby".
The mood of the entire assembly now changed from confusion to curiosity - how would Sri Rama react?
The noble prince smiled and calmly replied,
"We have invited you for the flawless performance of the ceremony. You have pointed out a flaw in tune with your duty as a pundit; I thank you for it. I now invite you to provide a solution, which also forms part of your duty".
This exposition of Dharmic postures and privileges between the greatest of kings and the noblest of men , was becoming even a treat for the Gods!
The king of Sri Lanka was not only a great ruler but also a great scholar. The scholar in him rose to the occasion now and Ravana said,
"O Rama, I can and shall provide a solution, since I do not wish to bear the blame for non-performance of Divine worship, but on one condition. I shall arrange to bring Sita here for the pooja but you should permit her to return to my place after the function".
All around, were astounded and speechless at the clash of wit and fantasy of words between the two great men and waited with bated breath for Sri Rama’s rejoinder. The noblest of men, simply and cheerfully accepted the offer, and the ceremony was completed in all solemnity. As per Indian customs and traditions, after viewing the couple, Ravana said “Let victory be yours!” though he knew well, those words meant his own destruction. Here was human values surpassing all constraints of Self.
Only one more formality remained, that of honoring the priest. Sri Rama invited Ravana himself to suggest the fees for the function. It was at this moment that the greatest and the most crucial episode of Ramayana unfolded before an unbelieving audience.
Ravana, the king would not take any fees, not even from Sri Rama, as he was always at the giving, and not the receiving end of fees or favors. But again the vedic pundit in him came to the fore.
He said,
"Sri Rama, knowing you very well, the only fees I solicit is that you stand by me when my life departs".
And thus it came to pass, that when Ravana lay in his last moments Sri Rama was near him. It only reveals that ultimate comfort for everyone high or low is to have Divinity nearby at the moment of death.

UNKNOWN STORY : Draupadi Donating a Piece of Her Saree and....

Image result for draupadi sage
Once Draupadi was going to take bath in a river near her palace. She was accompanied by other girls working for her in the palace. This was their daily routine. But on that day she saw a sage (rishi) taking bath in the same river. She along with other girls decided to wait till the sage comes out. The sage spotted her and other girls standing under the shade of a tree. She waited for a while for the sage to come out but she couldn't wait more as it was a hot day. She requested the sage to come out.

The sage replied, ‘ My clothes, which I had kept near the banks of river, have been stolen and so I can not come out’.

All girls except Draupadi started giggling.

Draupadi said, 'I'll tear a part of my saree and throw it towards you so that you catch it, wrap it around yourself and come out'.
The sage agreed. Draupadi tore a part of her saree and threw it towards the sage. The sage was not able to get hold of it and that piece of cloth was washed away with the current of the river. She tore another part of her saree and again threw it towards the sage. Again the sage was not able to catch it. When she was going to tear a piece from her saree for the third time, the sage stopped her.
He said, 'If you tear another part of your saree you will hardly have anything left to cover yourself. But still you want help me. You could have asked for a piece of cloth from one of the girls accompanying you but neither did you ask them nor did any of them offer to help. Instead all were finding amusement out of my situation.’
All girls stopped giggling and started feeling sorry.
The sage continued, 'Draupadi I grant you a boon that if anyone tries to take away your pride by stripping you off, he will never be successful'.

And the rest is history.

The Temple to Hell!!

This Is The Temple Where Indians Are 'Hell' Scared To Go. Here's The Reason Why. Would You Visit It?

There is one temple in this world where every person on this Earth has to visit, if not in life, then after death. This temple is of Yamraj, situated in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The place is called Bharmour.

The temple here looks more like a home. Many people fear to go inside it, and just pray from outside and leave. The reason is, according to legend, the god of death, Yamraj, lives in this temple. And this is also the only place in the world dedicated to this god!

One room inside this temple is dedicated to Chitragupta, who is considered the secretary of Yamraj, and keeps an account of all the good and bad karmas of a person. It is said that after death, every soul is first brought to this place, before proceeding its journey further. People believe that the temple has four invisible doors made of gold, silver, bronze and iron. Yamraj decides which soul should pass through which door. The religious text of Garud Puran also talks about such 4 doors through which every soul has to pass post death. To decide that, the soul is presented before Chitragupta, who gives a description of a person's sins and good deeds. For this job, Chitragupta takes the help of God Shravan, the son of Lord Brahma. It is believed that Shravan knows everything about heaven, hell and Earth as he can hear and see people clearly living on Earth.

His wives are famous by the name of Shravani. They understand a woman’s nature very well.

Do not wait for the PERFECT partner.......you may have to wait forever.

Everyone is not as lucky as Devi Revathi...

Devi Revathi??

What's her story??

Revati was born when human beings on earth were of huge size. Reva, father of Revati, wanted the best groom for his daughter. For this purpose, both father and daughter went to Brahma, the creator.

The journey, the meeting and the return journey took thousand years. It must be noted here that one human year is one day for the Devas.

When they arrived, Brahma was listening to a musical performance by the Gandharvas, so they waited patiently until the performance was finished. Then, Kakudmi bowed humbly, made his request and presented his shortlist of candidates.

After hearing his words, Lord Brahmā, who is most powerful, laughed loudly and said to Kakudmī: O King, all those whom you may have decided within the core of your heart to accept as your son-in-law have passed away in the course of time.Twenty-seven catur-yugas have already passed. Those upon whom you may have decided are now gone, and so are their sons, grandsons and other descendants. You cannot even hear about their names.

King Kakudmi was overcome with astonishment and alarm at this news

Reva and Revati returned to earth and found that the earth has undergone sea change.

Human beings were no longer of giant size. The father and daughter found themselves odd amongst human beings of shorter stature.

No man was ready to marry Revati.

This made the father and daughter unhappy. The father and daughter moved away from civilization and started leading a rustic life. It is said that Revati used to wrestle with animals and drink large amount of wine.

Balarama too was a huge figure and he was also not happy to marry any ordinary woman. He was also on the look out for a woman who could match his strength and figure.

Balarama once happened to see Revati and he was impressed by her height and strength. She was a match to the rustic Balaram.

They both decided to get married.

Kakudmi and Revati found Balarama and proposed the marriage. Because she was from an earlier yuga, Revati was far taller and larger than her husband-to-be, but Balarama, tapped his plough(his characteristic weapon) on her head or shoulder and she shrunk to the normal height of people in Balarama's age. The marriage was then duly celebrated.
